The Issue

On Tuesday, Attorney General Pam Bondi instructed federal prosecutors to pursue the death penalty for Luigi Mangione. While the murder of Brian Thompson is an undeniable tragedy, seeking the death penalty will not bring him back or heal the lives that have been forever altered by this act of violence.

The cycle of violence perpetuated by the death penalty only leads to more harm.

Luigi's Attorney says:

"While claiming to protect against murder, the federal government moves to commit the pre-meditated, state-sponsored murder of Luigi...By doing this, they are defending the broken, immoral, and murderous healthcare industry that continues to terrorize the American people."

This case has already been sensationalized, and the media frenzy makes it difficult for a jury to remain unbiased. Pursuing the death penalty would only add to this spectacle, making a fair trial even more challenging.

This is not about justice—it is about revenge.

Luigi Mangione, regardless of the charges against him, deserves a fair trial and the possibility of rehabilitation if convicted. A life sentence without parole would provide true justice while ensuring no more lives are lost to state-sanctioned violence.

It’s time to break the cycle. The death penalty should not be sought in this case.

Justice does not require more murder.
