Justice & Independence for Puerto Rico
The Issue
Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States, and its residents are considered as US citizens. However, Puerto Rico does not have the same level of political representation or autonomy (the right or condition of self-government) as states within the United States.
There are many debates over whether it should be independent or dependent and considered as a state, but many residents of Puerto Rico argue for their independence. Many argue that if Puerto Rico becomes independent its government and economy will down drastically. If Puerto Rico is allowed to have its independence it will actually allow them to have greater control over its own affairs and determine its own destiny. Currently, Puerto Rico is a territory of the United States and does not have the same level of autonomy as a State. Independence would allow Puerto Rico to have its own government, make its own laws, and control over its own economy without interference from the United States. It will also give them recognition as a sovereign nation its own right. Puerto Rico has a unique culture and identity; many argue that it deserves to be recognized as a distinct nation rather than a dependent territory.
If you sign on this petition you will give Puerto Rico a voice and recognition that they want to be independent, and justice will be served as they been held as a territory for 125 years. #justice4PuertoRico
