Petition Title
Justice for Wyleek Tinsley: Demand Accountability and Independent Investigation
Petition Text
On March 6, 2025, 19-year-old Wyleek Tinsley was shot and killed inside of his then girlfriends home by police officers responding to a domestic disturbance call.
Wyleek was a young man with his entire future ahead of him. He had recently obtained a new job and was beginning to build his life. His family, friends, and community are now left with unanswered questions and a devastating loss.
Wyleek was unarmed when officers encountered him. Body camera footage has raised serious concerns about the speed with which deadly force was used and whether alternative actions could have prevented the loss of life.
Regardless of where individuals stand on policing, every community member should agree that when a young person loses their life during a police encounter, the public deserves a thorough, transparent, and independent review of what occurred.
We are calling for:
1. A Full Independent Investigation
Any investigation into the shooting should be conducted independently and transparently, with all relevant evidence reviewed.
2. Public Transparency
The timely release of body camera footage, reports, findings, and investigative conclusions so the public can understand what happened.
3. Accountability Where Warranted
If misconduct, policy violations, or unnecessary use of force are found, appropriate accountability measures should follow.
4. Support and Respect for the Family
Families seeking answers after a police-involved death deserve dignity, communication, and protection from intimidation or retaliation.
5. Legislative Reform
Pennsylvania lawmakers should examine policies regarding:
• Police use of force
• Body camera transparency
• Crisis response procedures
• Independent investigations of police shootings
• Family notification and rights following police-involved deaths
Why This Matters
This petition is about more than one family.
It is about ensuring that every Pennsylvanian can trust that when a life is lost during a police encounter, the truth will be fully examined, the process will be transparent, and accountability will exist where necessary.
Wyleek Tinsley’s life mattered.
His family deserves answers.
Our communities deserve transparency.
And future tragedies must be prevented whenever possible.
