Justice for Tyrone Hogan

Board of Professional Responsibilities,
On April 11, 2024, WSMV Channel 4 News published an article titled "Inmate dies after fight at Tennessee prison”. This article was covering the incident that happened with my brother, Tyrone Hogan and his cell mate, John Childress. This article is how I learned of the incident. The prison, nor the hospital contacted me. I am his emergency contact. One week later, 4/16/24, my brother finally was able to contact me by phone. He is being held in isolation without proper care. He has open wounds that are not being treated and he is not being given the medication he was prescribed by his doctor at Vanderbilt. The prison says they do not allow that classification of pain meds and instead are given him the pain meds they do allow. If that was the issue, why isn’t he being held in Special Needs prison so he can receive the proper care he needs. He is also being housed in segregation wearing his boxers and socks only. They will not allow him his clothing nor personal belongings. I have tried to contact the prison staff several times but the Warden nor the Family Advocate is returning my calls. I did request visitation through the visitation department but that has since been denied, due to my brother in segregation. When my brother first contacted me and told me the situation, I spoke with the night shift Captain Austin, and he said my brother was being held in segregation for protective custody. My brother has now informed me he is being held in segregation due to a write up for assault on an inmate. My brother was attacked and assaulted. He also told me the prison investigation team has video of the murder but not the assault. So, the deceased was assaulted by whom and where is the proof? What about my brother being assaulted? He has over 120 stitches, and an aneurysm on his brain. That is more than enough proof of assault. There were no weapons found in his cell, only the makeshift weapon used against him. Which brings me to another point. While he was being attacked and slammed around, the sink in the cell fell apart. That is what was used to stab my brother multiple times in his head, his face, and his hands/wrist. Tyrone is the Pod cleaner. He says he asked the deputy on duty before this incident occurred to be let out of his cell to do his job. Deputy Kimble refused. Leading up to the attack, John Childress also told Kimble there was a problem within the cell and to let him out. She ignored both requests and now one inmate is dead, and the other is suffering from life threatening stab wounds and a brain aneurism. That same inmate is also being punished and mistreated and not receiving the care he deserves. The prison is trying to bully him by giving him a write up for assault, but the truth is he defended himself. The prison is trying to build a murder case and leaving him to foot it. This could have all been avoided if the deputy on duty was doing her job and attending to the prisoners. Now that all has happened, my family is worried about Tyrone’s well-being. Visitation has been denied. I have put in request for special visitation but still the prison has notresponded to that neither. What can you do to help my brother and our family? He is not allowed to call us daily to update us on his health and well-being. He is not allowed visitation. The prison is not returning our calls. The prison is at fault for (1)That deputy ignoring both inmates call for help (2) That sink being used as a weapon against him (3) Not giving his prescribed meds (4) Improper Housing (5) Bogus write up for assault (6) Not contacting inmate emergency contacts. The list just goes on and on. Please help!
