The Issue

Twisha Sharma was a vibrant 33-year-old, an aspirant filled with dreams, a former Miss Pune, and a beloved daughter. Her life, filled with promise and hope, was tragically and unjustly cut short. Her death under mysterious circumstances in her marital home in Bhopal, is not just another statistic of injustice; it is a call to action. Twisha was two months pregnant and had been married for just five months, yet her life ended in distress, captured in her haunting last messages: 'I am trapped, bro' and 'I feel suffocated, Ma'. These messages expose the deep-rooted issues of domestic violence and gender-based discrimination that still plague many societies.

In India, where the safety of women is constantly undermined, Twisha’s story is a stark reminder of the urgent need for stricter laws and faster legal proceedings to protect women experiencing domestic abuse. Every day, countless women are trapped in circumstances that threaten their safety, security, and even their lives. It is imperative that we, as a society, demand transparency, thorough investigations, and hold accountable those responsible, irrespective of their status.

The police investigation into Twisha’s death must be conducted thoroughly and without bias, ensuring that every angle is considered and every piece of evidence is examined. Authorities need to reaffirm their commitment to justice by bringing the truth to light. By demanding justice for Twisha, we are also echoing the demand for the safety and protection of all women who continue to suffer in silence.

We call upon the local and national authorities, lawmakers, and the justice system to prioritize the safety of women by enforcing existing laws more stringently and introducing more robust protective measures for victims of domestic violence. We urge these entities to pledge transparency and accountability in Twisha’s case to serve as a precedent for all future cases.

With this petition we request following

Independent Second Autopsy: Demand a fresh post-mortem at AIIMS Delhi to resolve inconsistencies in the initial report and confirm the nature of the injuries found on her body.

Transfer the Case to Delhi/Supreme Court: Demand a transfer from the Madhya Pradesh courts to the Supreme Court of India to prevent local influence and ensure a fair, neutral trial.

Establish a Supreme Court-Monitored SIT: Request a Special Investigation Team (SIT) composed of independent officers and monitored directly by the Supreme Court to ensure transparency and prevent evidence destruction.

Immediate Cancellation of Bail for Giribala Singh: Demand the immediate cancellation of anticipatory bail granted to ex-Judge Giribala Singh (mother-in-law). Given the serious allegations, her judicial connections, and concerns regarding possible influence on the investigation and witnesses, no bail should be granted to her. We also demand stricter action against the absconding accused Samarth Singh, son of Giribala Singh, and full accountability for all lapses in the investigation.

Twisha’s story cannot just be another file on a desk; it is a testament to a bright life dimmed too soon. The pain of losing her resonates deeply with those who cared for her, and it burns as a symbol of the countless others who are suffering behind closed doors.

Please join us in demanding justice for Twisha. Together, we can push for change and protect those who are most vulnerable. Sign this petition to stand up for Twisha and for the millions of women like her who deserve a life free from fear and violence.
