Petition updateJustice for the Sloths: Do Not Let Bandit Die in VainUPDATE: THE NINE SURVIVING SLOTHS, THE SANFORD RESPONSE, AND THE NEED FOR ACCOUNTABILITY

The Central Florida Zoo has confirmed that nine sloths survived the conditions at Sloth World and are now in quarantine receiving proper care. Their names are Phantom; Pearl; Blackberry; Mojo Jojo; Willow; Hazel; Chewie; Dolce; and Leeloo. These nine represent only a portion of the sloths that passed through Sloth World. Many others did not survive; several remain unaccounted for; and no agency has released a complete intake to outcome list. This lack of transparency remains a central concern.
A COMMUNITY THAT TOOK ACTION
After Sloth World collapsed, Amber Babcock of Whisker Works was left with sloth craft kits that had already been prepared. She chose to donate them to support the rescued sloths now being cared for by the Central Florida Zoo. At the same time, Paul Williams of Sunshine State Threadz and Sanford Main Street launched a t‑shirt fundraiser with one hundred percent of proceeds going to sloth conservation. Orders came in from more than forty states; Whisker Works stepped in to handle nationwide shipping and fulfillment; volunteers gathered at the Historic Sanford Welcome Center to pack and ship orders; and local businesses worked behind the scenes to make it all happen. More than fifty thousand dollars has been raised so far… a genuine example of community leadership.
WHAT ORANGE COUNTY AND THE CITY OF ORLANDO HAVE NOT DONE
Sloth World operated in Orange County and marketed itself as an Orlando attraction. While Seminole County and Sanford businesses have shown initiative and responsibility, the same cannot be said for the county and city where this actually occurred. Orange County and the City of Orlando can point fingers at FWC, but the reality is simple: Sloth World was allowed to exist; allowed to operate; and allowed to fail under their watch. It was permitted; approved; and promoted locally. When everything collapsed, the response from both the county and the city amounted to statements and nothing more. No push for answers; no demand for transparency; no accountability for how this was allowed to happen in the first place. This has not been brought into focus… and it needs to be.
A SUBSTANTIVE RESPONSE FROM REPRESENTATIVE DARREN SOTO
For the first time, we received a response from an elected official that was not a form letter. Representative Darren Soto outlined his long record on animal welfare legislation and stated clearly that he is committed to fighting cruelty and abuse. That matters; it means he is someone who can take action on this case. But now he needs to follow through. He said he wants to help… and it is time to ensure he hears from all of us.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
If you live in Florida, especially Central Florida, please contact Representative Soto and ask him to: request a federal review of what happened at Sloth World; push for full transparency on the fate of every sloth; ask FWC and USDA why no complete accounting has been released; support stronger oversight for exotic animal facilities.

He is also reachable on his official social media accounts under @RepDarrenSoto. Be respectful and direct. Tell him why this matters. He opened the door… now we need to walk through it.
FOR THE NINE WHO SURVIVED AND THE ONES WHO DID NOT
The community has shown what real action looks like; Sanford has shown what responsibility looks like; and now we need our elected officials to show the same. Thank you for continuing to stand with these animals. This work is not finished.
