Justice for the Dog Who Died Trying to Escape a Hot Car in North Carolina

The Issue

In Southern Pines, North Carolina, a dog died in one of the most horrifying ways imaginable—trying to save itself.

According to police, the dog was left inside a car as temperatures soared to 114 degrees. Its leash was tied inside the vehicle, and the window was barely cracked. In a desperate attempt to escape the unbearable heat, the dog broke through the window—only to die by hanging.

A passerby found the dog hanging from the side of the car, still tethered to the inside. By the time help arrived, it was too late.

The woman responsible, 20-year-old Triniti Graham, has been charged with felony animal cruelty. But this case must be a turning point—not just another tragic headline.

We are calling on North Carolina lawmakers to take urgent action:

Strengthen penalties for leaving animals in hot cars—before they die.
Require immediate intervention by law enforcement when animals are at risk.
Launch a statewide public awareness campaign on the deadly risks of heat exposure.
This dog died trying to live. And unless we act now, it will happen again.

Sign to demand justice—for this dog, and for every animal trapped and suffering in silence.
