Justice for the 30 Dogs and Blind Pony Rescued in Fenton

Justice for the 30 Dogs and Blind Pony Rescued in Fenton
The Issue
Thirty terrified, neglected dogs and a blind pony were rescued from a home in Fenton, Missouri — where they had been living in filth, fear, and extreme neglect.
The dogs, mostly small terrier breeds, were found crammed inside the residence. The pony had been left outside, alone and blind, with no proper shelter or care.
According to St. Louis County Animal Care and Control, these animals were surviving in conditions no living being should ever endure. They are now safe — but they are also victims of cruelty, and their rescue must be the beginning of justice, not the end.
We, the undersigned, are calling on the St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office to:
- Investigate the case fully and determine if the neglect rises to the level of criminal animal cruelty under Missouri law.
- File appropriate charges if violations are found, and pursue them with seriousness and urgency.
- Ensure that the individual(s) responsible are barred from owning animals in the future if found guilty of cruelty or neglect.
It is not enough that these animals were surrendered. We need to make clear that neglect on this scale is not excused simply by handing the animals over after being caught.
Missouri has one of the highest rates of large-scale animal cruelty cases in the country. When owners are allowed to avoid consequences — even when dozens of animals are found suffering — it sends a dangerous message: that abuse goes unchecked, and that animals are disposable.
These dogs and this pony are not disposable. They are living beings who felt hunger, fear, and pain. Their suffering should not be swept under the rug.
We also call on the St. Louis County Council to provide emergency support to Animal Care and Control, which is now beyond capacity after this rescue. These animals deserve not only accountability for the past — but a chance at real healing in the present.
Please sign this petition to demand justice, real enforcement, and a safer future for animals in our communities.
