We, the undersigned, demand a full investigation and immediate accountability for the unjust and dangerous treatment of World Champion Boxer Terence “Bud” Crawford by the Omaha Police Department during a recent traffic stop. As a combat veteran and a concerned citizen of Omaha, I am outraged by this abuse of power and the reckless endangerment of a respected community member.

As an American combat veteran, I fought to defend our freedoms, our Constitution, and our basic human rights. I never imagined I would have to come home and fight for those same rights within my own community.

Recently, Terence “Bud” Crawford—an undisputed world champion boxer, a role model, and a proud son of Omaha—was subjected to an alarming and unjust act of police overreach. During what should have been a routine traffic stop, Mr. Crawford reportedly had a gun drawn on him by officers of the Omaha Police Department without just cause or provocation.

 

This is unacceptable.

 

No citizen, let alone a man who has represented our city and our nation with pride and dignity, should be treated with such hostility and danger. It is an insult to our community, our veterans, our children, and every person who believes in justice and equal treatment under the law.

 

We demand:

 1. A full, transparent, and independent investigation into the incident involving Mr. Crawford and the Omaha Police Department.

 2. Immediate release of body camera footage from all officers involved in the stop.

 3. Appropriate disciplinary action against any officers found to have violated protocol or endangered a citizen’s life without justification.

 4. Public acknowledgment and apology from the Omaha Police Department.

 5. Implementation of de-escalation training and anti-bias policies to prevent further abuse of power, especially against Black men and community leaders.

 

As a community, we are tired of fearing those who are sworn to protect us. We will not be silent while those in power abuse their authority, and we will not allow another Black man to be treated as a threat simply for existing.

We stand with Bud Crawford. We demand justice. We demand change.

I respectfully call on the Mayor John Ewing of Omaha , the Chief of Police, the City Council, and local leaders to respond swiftly and justly. The world is watching, and so are your constituents.
