Justice for Ta’Kiya Young and Her Unborn Child

Justice for Ta’Kiya Young and Her Unborn Child
The Issue
Ta’Kiya Young was 21 years old. She was unarmed, pregnant, and suspected of shoplifting.
Moments later, she and her unborn daughter were dead—shot through the windshield by an Ohio police officer in a grocery store parking lot.
This should never have happened.
Body camera footage shows that Ta’Kiya was approached by two Blendon Township police officers after allegedly taking bottles of alcohol. She lowered her window. She was ordered to exit the vehicle. When she slowly pulled forward, her car rolled toward Officer Connor Grubb—who then fired a single shot into her car.
Ta’Kiya and her unborn daughter died shortly after at a hospital. She left behind two young sons, a grieving family, and a devastated community.
Now her estate is suing the township, the police chief, and Officer Grubb, citing a long history of aggressive conduct and lack of proper training, discipline, or oversight. The lawsuit describes a police department that escalates first and investigates later—too often with deadly consequences.
We, the undersigned, demand:
- Full accountability and prosecution of Officer Connor Grubb
- An independent federal investigation into the Blendon Township Police Department
- Statewide limits on police use of deadly force in non-violent encounters
- Public release of internal complaints and use-of-force histories for officers in the department
This isn’t just about one officer. It’s about a system that allowed him to treat a scared young woman like a deadly threat—over suspected theft.
No mother should die like this. No child should be lost like this. Ta’Kiya deserved compassion, not a bullet.
We demand justice. Sign your name to stand with Ta’Kiya’s family and push for real change.
