Today marks three years since Shanquella Robinson was killed while on vacation in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. She left home with friends and never came back. Since that day, her mother Sallamondra Robinson has refused to stop fighting for justice.
According to the latest federal court filings, Shanquella’s family is still pushing forward in their wrongful death lawsuit against the six people who were with her on that trip. Over the summer, the defendants tried to have the case thrown out—arguing that Mexico should handle it—but the family’s legal team, led by Ben Crump, Sue-Ann Robinson, and Gabrielle Higgins, filed a full opposition in October.
The filing makes it clear that every defendant is a U.S. citizen and that Mexico is not a suitable forum since one of the accused faces an active warrant there. The family’s lawyers also documented how defendants allegedly evaded service, changed names, and delayed accountability. The brief argues that this case belongs in the United States, where the evidence, witnesses, and the viral video itself are all part of the public record.
The defendants’ attorneys, including Hall Booth Smith, P.C., have continued to contest deadlines and filing extensions, but the judge has allowed the family’s case to move forward. The next steps will determine whether the claims for wrongful death, negligence, and conspiracy can proceed toward discovery and trial.
As attorney Ben Crump and Sue-Ann Robinson stated today, three years later the family is still waiting for full justice, no U.S. criminal charges have been filed, and the fight continues for truth, transparency, and accountability.
Honor Shanquella’s name by sharing her story and signing the petition demanding federal action. Her life mattered. Her death will not be forgotten.
