Justice for Sammy: Uber Must Protect Riders and Drivers

The Issue

I’m writing this with a broken heart. My husband, Sammy Jackson, was murdered while driving for Uber by a passenger with a long history of armed robbery. This tragic loss could have been prevented.

Every day, over 15 million rides happen through Uber. Riders trust the platform. Drivers risk their safety. But Uber only checks the background of drivers — not passengers. That means someone with a violent felony record can request a ride and come face-to-face with an innocent driver — or co-rider — without any vetting.

Uber earned nearly $44 billion in 2024—profits built on the trust and labor of drivers and the everyday passengers who use their services. A fraction of that revenue must go toward ensuring the safety of everyone on the platform.

This petition isn’t just about my husband. It’s about every person who uses rideshare.

Drivers deserve safety. Riders deserve safety. Communities deserve protection.

We are demanding the following:
✅ Uber ban violent criminals from using their platform.
✅ Legislation should close loopholes that leave drivers and riders vulnerable to dangerous individuals.
✅ Create a nationwide standard for rideshare safety — ban individual with violent criminal backgrounds.

This campaign is not about pointing fingers — it’s about saving lives. By signing this petition, you’re helping us push for common-sense reforms that protect everyone who uses rideshare platforms.

Please sign and share. Let’s make sure no one else has to lose their loved one to a failure that can be fixed.
