Justice for Roadkill Victims: Demand Road Cameras Now

Justice for Roadkill Victims: Demand Road Cameras Now
The Issue
How would you feel if you received a call that your family pet was lying out on the road, deceased and alone, for hours? My goal is to advocate for Johns Island drivers to be held accountable when an animal (either a protected wildlife species or a pet) is struck dead and left alone in the road. It is so critically important to advocate for our loved pets and beautiful wildlife who don't have their own voices.
Johns Island is currently LITTERED with roadkill. We need road cameras on roads with high concentrations of animal-vehicle collisions, including Maybank Hwy, Bohicket Road, Bears Bluff Road, Chisolm Road, Main Road, and possibly more. These cameras would allow officials to determine where exactly these animals are left in the road, and the make, model, and license plate of the vehicle that committed the offense. We must hold these drivers accountable to see a change! The cameras would allow the animal and possibly the family to be brought to justice.
It is estimated that approximately 100,000 dogs will die each year from vehicle collisions. 61.2% of kittens under one year will die from a vehicle collision. The leading cause of death in cats over eight years is vehicle collisions. An estimated 8.3 MILLION opossums (protected species in South Carolina) are struck and killed by vehicles each year in the US.
Let's protect the beautiful city of Charleston, SC, and ALL of its inhabitants!
