Leonel Hernandez, the man who confessed to the murder of Richard Madrigal in his affidavit with the El Paso police department is now free on the streets! After Judge Penny Hamilton lowered Hernandez's bond from $1 million to $500,000 Hernandez was able to post bail and rejoin the public. On June 12th the life of a beloved father, former navy serviceman, and DJ at KLAQ was taken from us. He was known as Rick "Mardi Gras." Not only are we giving Hernandez the opportunity to commit another crime, he is an undeniable flight risk given El Paso's proximity to Mexico. Since Hernandez's release he has not been subject to house arrest (not even an ankle brace!) but only has to abide by curfews, twice a month check-ins and restraining orders with the victim's family. There has yet to be a sentencing date meaning Hernandez could be potentially free for over a year. We ask that you demand justice for Richard and his family and sign this petition, share it with members of the community so that we can revoke Hernandez's bail and put him back in Jail before someone else looses a loved one.
