Justice for NJEA's Aiat Oraby!

Justice for NJEA's Aiat Oraby!

The Issue

In a world striving for equity and inclusion, it is disheartening to witness situations where individuals face injustice due to their race or religion. Aiat Oraby has been an amazing advocate for justice. Aiat was an active NJEA member and an active MOC member who recently became an NJEA employee. However, a NJ politician, Josh Gottheimer, who has already been accused of being Anti-Muslim, decided to call for her firing based on false accusations. These accusations are based on INCORRECT TRANSLATIONS of social media posts written BEFORE Ms. Oraby worked for NJEA. It's imperative that our NJEA members step up to protect Aiat from political pressures and unfounded allegations. The NJEA has always prided itself on being a beacon of support and advocacy for educators, employees, and students, regardless of their background. It is crucial for the association to uphold its values by demonstrating unwavering support for Aiat Oraby in this challenging period. False accusations and political pressures not only tarnish individual reputations but also undermine the dignity and progress of entire communities. The NJEA must set a precedent by prioritizing truth and fairness over baseless allegations. Ensuring justice for Aiat Oraby will reinforce the NJEA's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, paving the way for a more just and equitable work environment. We, therefore, call upon NJEA's Executive Director, Kevin Kelleher, NJEA's Deputy Director, Denise Policastro, and NJEA's President, Steve Beatty, to continue to employ Aiat Oraby and apologize for their Anti-Muslim actions. By doing so, they can send a powerful message of solidarity to all NJEA members and employees, highlighting their duty to stand against discrimination and for what is right. Sign this petition to urge these NJEA leaders to take unwavering action in supporting Aiat Oraby and ensuring justice prevails.
