Justice for Newborn’s Rape and Murder – No Parole for Hugo Ferreira!

Justice for Newborn’s Rape and Murder – No Parole for Hugo Ferreira!
The Issue
An eight-day-old baby girl was raped and beaten to death by the very person meant to protect her—her father, Hugo Ferreira, to "give her something to cry about" when she began to cry during a nappy change.
A newborn is completely helpless, relying on their parents for survival, safety, and love. Instead of caring for her, he tortured and murdered her in the most horrific way imaginable. This vile crime has devastated her family, horrified the nation, and highlighted the urgent need for justice.
This baby never got a chance to live—so why should her killer have any chance at freedom? Allowing Hugo Ferreira the possibility of parole would be an insult to justice and to the innocent life he destroyed. His actions demonstrate a complete disregard for human life. If he does not receive a natural life sentence or multiple life sentences without parole, it sends a dangerous message—that such horrific crimes can be excused, and that a child’s life holds less value than the freedom of the perpetrator. We must not allow this.
Furthermore, there is no guarantee that, upon release, Hugo Ferreira would not harm subsequent children. As a society, we have an obligation to do everything in our power to ensure that children are protected from such unimaginable violence. This responsibility falls not only on individuals but on our justice system as well.
We appeal to the High Court of South Africa, as the custodian of all children in this nation, to ensure that no future child is harmed by the same accused. The risk is too great, and the crime too heinous to allow any possibility of his return to society.
In a criminal trial, it is the state versus the accused. This petition serves to reflect the voices of the people who make up that state—the people who stand against this brutal crime and demand that the full weight of the law be applied.
The sentencing hearing is approaching, and we must act now to demand the harshest possible punishment. Hugo Ferreira should never walk free. If we do not push for the strictest sentence, we fail not only this baby but every future victim of child abuse and gender-based violence.
Sign this petition to demand justice. No parole. No leniency. No second chances for child rapists and murderers!
