Justice for My Son – A Sick Child Expelled for My Courage by Hialeah Strong

The Issue

My son is a U.S. citizen. He is a minor. And he has severe scoliosis a painful, progressive condition that affects his spine and his ability to live a normal childhood.

Swimming wasn’t just a sport for him, it was therapy. It was the only thing that truly helped strengthen his back and manage his condition without constant medication. It gave him hope, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

But the City of Hialeah took that away from him.

He was expelled from the Hialeah Strong Swim Team, a city-run program, not for something he did but because I, his mother, spoke up. I defended other children who were being mistreated. I stood up for what was right.

I never imagined that standing up for others would cost my son his lifeline.

Instead of fixing the wrongs I brought to light, the city retaliated. They sanctioned my child not once, but twice and shut him out of the one thing keeping his body strong and his spirit alive.

Now, I live in fear. I feel watched. Isolated. Punished for telling the truth. And I fear for my child’s health because this isn’t just about sports. It’s about his ability to walk without pain. To breathe without struggle. To grow up with dignity.

I am raising my voice because if something happens to us, I want the world to know: we tried to speak out.

This petition is a call for justice not just for my son, but for every child in Hialeah who deserves to be treated with fairness, dignity, and compassion.

We are a city of immigrant families, of parents who came here for a better life. And yet today, in our own community, a sick child is being punished because his mother refused to stay silent.

Please, help us right this wrong. Demand that these unfair sanctions be lifted. Demand accountability. Stand with my son — stand for decency, for health, for what’s right.

Because no child should ever be punished for their mother’s courage.
