The Issue

My name is Okeoma Bekee, a native of Amaokpu autonomous community Nkpa, in Bende LGA of Abia State. Resident in Lagos State.

It was in the morning of Thursday 29th of May around 7AM that I got a distress call from my younger sister, that some men of the Nigerian police force were at our house to arrest them. I tried speaking with them but they refuse to oblige., That was how they arrested my 70 years old mother Uloma Bekee, and younger sister Ihekerenma Bekee.

I later received a call from my sister that day that they are being held at the police Anti cult Unit, Olokoro Umuahia, Abia State. I was on the next day that a police man who refused to mention his name spoke to me through my sister's phone. When I asked him , who ordered for their arrest and why? He replied, that it was the community and because of a land dispute .

Our community PG and Chairman has denied involvement in their arrest and detention.

It has been over 72 hours that both my mother and sister have been in detention at the Anti cult Unit of the Abia State Police, Olokoro Umuahia; without access to food, bathing and changing of clothes.

My mother is still mourning her late husband who was recently buried on the 24th of April, barely a month ago. My family is devastated right now over this issue. We couldn't even be allowed to mourn our late father in peace.

Our demands are simple:
1. The officers should release my mother and sister from detention.

2. The officers should be investigated to unmask the true identity of whoever is behind their arrest and detention; and be made to face Justice.
