Our southern borders have encountered many issues over the last few years pertaining to immigrants and whether or not each family has an opportunity to start a new life here in the United States, however,  between 2015-2018 more than 4,500 children have reported to be sexually abused by ICE agents while  staying at U.S. detention centers​. NPR’S John Burnett has spoken about the problem and stated, “Of those complaints, 1,300 of those allegations were serious enough to refer to the FBI, but an official says ‘the vast majority’ proved to be unfound.”  These complaints range from inappropriate romantic relationships between children and adults, touching genitals, to watching children shower.              In order to stop this sexual abuse towards helpless migrant children, Congress should require comprehensive, public reporting of the agency’s activities pertaining to enforcement, detention, and personnel more frequently in oppose to reporting annually. Congress should also make it a mandatory requirement to investigate all allegations pertaining to sexual harassment, or abuse towards minors no matter how urgent the issue is. This would be the best solution due to that fact that many fail to report allegations and/or rely on other to report the problems in the facilities.

            This issue is very dear to my heart due to the fact that I am a Hispanic myself and most of my family migrated to the United States from Mexico. When I hear about migrant children getting sexually abused, it breaks my heart thinking that it might have been a family member or myself in that situation. I want to advocate for the children who can't speak up for themselves and it would be a great accomplishment if we can help them get their justice.

En los Estados Unidos, el gobierno ha tenido muchos problemas con sus fronteras en el sur por muchos años debido al hecho que inmigrantes vienen para tener una oportunidad para encontrar trabajo y empezar de nuevo. Sin embargo, en los años de 2015-2018, más de 4,500 niños han acusado ICE trabajadores en centros de detención de abuso sexual. NPR’S John Burnett, un corresponsal que escribe sobre inmigración y problemas en nuestras fronteras, hablo sobre la problema y comento “De estas quejas, solamente 1,300 de estas acusaciones fueron reportados y muy grave que le hablaron al FBI para investigación, pero un oficial dice que la mayoría de \\los casos no tenían evidencia que probaba abuso sexual.” Estas acusaciones van desde trabajadores teniendo relaciones con personas menor de edad, tocando las partes privadas de niños, y viéndolos mientras se andan bañando. Aunque unos casos no son relacionados con trabajadores, la mayoridad se consiste de un niño menor de edad y un trabajador en estos centros.

               Aunque este es una crisis difícil para resolver, demandamos un cambio en centros de detención. Congreso debe requerir informes públicos completos de las actividades que pasa en las agencias relacionadas con la aplicación de la ley, la detención y el personal con mayor frecuencia en lugar de informes anuales. El gobierno también debe de ser una ley donde es mandatario a llevar a cada trabajador acusado de abuso sexual a un menor de edad corte sin saber la importancia del caso. Por ejemplo, aunque un caso será mas grave que otros, todos los casos deben de ir a corte para investigación. Esta solución puede ser un gran impacto a la seguridad de niños porque muchos ICE trabajadores fallan de reportar problemas o quieren que otros reporten los problemas en estas instalaciones.
              Esta crisis quiebra mi corazón en mil pedazos porque la mayoridad de los niños están solos y no tienen a nadie a decirles sus problemas. Yo quiero ser un cambio a los instalaciones porque soy hispana con familia de inmigrantes y cuando oigo de lo que está pasando, pienso que podía ser un familiar como un primo o yo en esa situación. Yo quiero advocar y ser la voz de los niños que no tienen el poder de hablar de sus situaciones y será un gran logro si les podemos traer justicia.
