The Issue

As a mother, my heart breaks every time I replay that night in my mind. The night my daughter, Mariah, was shot leaving Park Avenue Lounge & Restaurant in East Cleveland on 10/25/25. What should have been a simple night out with family turned into a nightmare that changed our lives forever. Mariah has endured multiple surgeries, tremendous pain, and a long road to healing. She now lives with a colostomy bag as her body recovers, but her spirit continues to fight every day. Even through her tears, she finds a way to smile, and that smile gives me strength to keep going.

This tragedy hasn’t just affected our family; it has shaken our entire community. Every parent, sibling, cousin, and friend in East Cleveland felt that same fear when they heard what happened. It reminded us all how fragile life truly is and how quickly violence can destroy everything we hold dear. No mother should ever have to worry if her child will make it home after simply going out to enjoy themselves. No young woman should have to live with the pain and scars of something that should have never happened.

If we stay silent, nothing will change, and that silence could cost another innocent life. Our community cannot continue to live in fear, wondering if their loved ones will make it home safely. We must come together and say enough. Justice for Mariah means more than holding one person accountable; it means healing a community that’s been hurting for too long. It means demanding that establishments like Park Avenue Lounge & Restaurant take responsibility for the environments they create and the lives impacted by violence around them.

This fight isn’t about revenge; it’s about love. It’s about protecting others, standing up for what’s right, and choosing to value life over profit, safety over convenience, and truth over silence. If we can bring change, it will bring hope—hope that no other mother has to feel this pain, and that one family’s heartbreak can lead to another family’s protection.

Now is the time to act, not later, not someday. We are standing here in the middle of our pain, believing that God can turn this heartbreak into purpose. The shooter is still out there, and this establishment remains open, a painful reminder of what happened and a danger to others. We cannot wait for another tragedy to finally make a change. Every day that passes without action is another day someone else’s child could be at risk.

We’re asking you as parents, neighbors, and human beings to join us. Add your name, your voice, and your prayers to this cause. Together, we can demand justice, accountability, and healing for my daughter. The shooter is still out there and no one is talking. We can take this tragedy and transform it into something that protects others and brings peace to our community.
