Justice for Manasa. Safety for Every Student.
On 5 August 2026, the Bangalore University community lost one of its own.

Manasa, a student of the Department of Visual Arts, tragically lost her life in a road accident within the Bangalore University campus. A place meant for learning, creativity, and personal growth instead became the site of an unimaginable tragedy.

No student should lose their life while simply travelling to or from class.

This heartbreaking incident has deeply affected students, parents, faculty, alumni, and the entire university community. Beyond the immense grief, it has once again highlighted the urgent need to address long-standing concerns regarding road safety, traffic management, pedestrian infrastructure, and emergency medical response within the campus.

Manasa's death must not become another forgotten statistic. It must become the turning point that compels meaningful action to ensure that no other family has to endure such an irreversible loss.

Our Demands
We, the undersigned students, parents, faculty, alumni, and concerned citizens, respectfully urge the Government of Karnataka and Bangalore University to take immediate action.

1. Fair Compensation and Support for Manasa's Family
No amount of money can replace the life of a daughter, friend, and student. However, the authorities have a moral responsibility to stand with the family during this devastating time.

We request that:

  • Fair and adequate financial compensation be provided to Manasa's family.
  • All medical expenses incurred following the accident, including emergency treatment, hospitalization, and related costs, be fully reimbursed, where applicable.
  • A dedicated university officer be appointed to assist the family with all legal, administrative, and compensation procedures.

2. Immediate Road Safety Improvements

We demand immediate implementation of:

  • Permit only authorized vehicles, emergency services, and essential public transport where required.
  • Introduce a campus-wide speed limit of 15–20 km/h with strict enforcement.
  • Install raised pedestrian crossings.
  • A comprehensive road safety audit across Bangalore University.
  • Scientifically designed speed breakers and rumble strips.
  • Clearly marked pedestrian crossings.
  • Dedicated pedestrian pathways.
  • Improved street lighting throughout the campus.
  • Reflective road signage and speed limit boards.
  • CCTV surveillance at accident-prone locations.
  • Strict speed enforcement for all vehicles entering the campus.

3. Emergency Medical Infrastructure

Every minute matters after a road accident.

We request:

  • A fully equipped Emergency Medical Response Centre within the campus.
  • A 24×7 ambulance stationed inside Bangalore University.
  • Emergency response personnel trained in trauma care.
  • Clearly displayed emergency helpline numbers across the campus.
  • Regular emergency preparedness drills for students and staff.

4. Long-Term Campus Safety Policy

We urge Bangalore University to develop and publicly implement a comprehensive Campus Road Safety Policy that includes:

  • Regular road safety inspections.
  • Annual infrastructure audits.
  • Student and faculty representation in safety committees.
  • Road safety awareness campaigns.
  • Periodic review of accident-prone areas.
  • A public progress report on all safety measures.

Why This Matters
Thousands of students, faculty members, researchers, employees, and visitors travel across Bangalore University every day.

Educational institutions have a responsibility to provide an environment where learning can take place safely. Preventable road accidents should never become part of campus life.

Every student deserves to leave home with the confidence that they will return safely.

This petition is not only about seeking justice for Manasa—it is about protecting every current and future student who walks through the gates of Bangalore University.

Our Appeal

We respectfully urge the Government of Karnataka and the Bangalore University administration to act immediately.

Let this tragedy become the beginning of meaningful reforms—not another incident that fades from public memory.

Justice is not only about investigating what happened.

Justice is also about ensuring that it never happens again.
