On January 20, 2026, Trinidad and Tobago police opened fire on a vehicle in St. Augustine, killing 31-year-old Joshua Samaroo and leaving his partner, 24-year-old Kaia Sealy, paralyzed from a gunshot wound to the back. [1]
CCTV footage broadcasted across social media and news outlets clearly exposes the truth: Joshua crashed into a drain and held his hands outside the vehicle windows in an act of complete surrender moments before officers unleashed a barrage of bullets, striking Joshua 19 times. [1]
Despite being a victim of catastrophic police violence and a mother to a 5-year-old girl, Kaia is now being wrongfully prosecuted by the State. She faces a total of nine charges, including manslaughter for the death of her own partner and shooting at the police. [1, 2, 3, 4]
Kaia has nothing to hide. She voluntarily left her specialized medical treatments in the United States and flew back to Trinidad to clear her name. Shockingly, she was intercepted directly off the aircraft at Piarco International Airport, arrested immediately, and slammed with an astronomical $700,000 bail. [1, 2, 3, 4]
We demand that Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard SC drop these fabricated charges. Stop protecting police misconduct by blaming the survivor. We call on international human rights watchdogs, regional leaders, and the global diaspora to stand with Kaia

Please help us with our fight against injustice. Any donations help!
