As residents of the Austin community we would like to come together to support Jamal Williams, also known as JRoy. Jamal is an essential part of the Austin community. Recently Jamal decided to host an event to bring the community together and celebrate the end of summer. Unfortunately, during this event people who are not from the Austin community were at the event being aggressive and violent with event goers and police. As these horrible events were occurring Jamal removed himself from the area and moved his event to a new location due to actions that he did not agree with. This event was supposed to be fun, safe, and a community gathering but unfortunately people from outside of the community ruined the night for everyone. After Jamal removed himself and found a new location for his event many participants continued to become rowdy with both the crowd and police. At that point Jamal had NOTHING to do with any of the actions that were ongoing and he DOES NOT agree nor condemn any negative or violent actions against anyone. In his community Jamal is also known as Mr. Williams; a loving and dedicated educator. Jamal has made such a connection with the students, parents, and staff of his school community. Jamal is a great mentor, member, educator, and friend whose main goal was to bring the community together in a safe fun manner. The events that occurred after are extremely unfortunate and the whole community is saddened. Us as a community believe these events should not cost him his career. He shouldn’t be held accountable due to others actions that were made that he does not condone.
