A 2-year-old golden retriever mix named Jameson was shot and killed by LAPD in front of his owner and a child. It started with a noise complaint.

On Saturday night, a neighbor called 911 after hearing screaming from an apartment in Canoga Park during celebrations following the New York Knicks' NBA championship victory. What followed was a response that included more than 20 officers and a police helicopter. Jameson — described by his family as gentle and loving — was at home with his family when officers arrived. According to LAPD, the dog rushed toward officers and was shot.

Jameson died in front of the people who loved him.

The family and animal advocates are asking a simple question: how does a noise complaint during a championship celebration escalate to a fatal dog shooting with 20 officers and a helicopter? What did the dispatch records show? What did the body cameras capture? Why was this the outcome?

LAPD has not released body cam footage. The officer involved has not been identified. The family has not received answers.
