Hanxin Zhao, a PhD candidate from TU Delft, the Netherlands. After 6 years of efforts, with 4 top-tier (Q1-ranked) papers published in the field, the academic level that few PhDs at the TPM faculty can reach, shockingly, his PhD turned out to be a nightmare: he didn’t get his well-deserved degree, but was retaliated by his PhD supervisor (Prof. Zofia Lukszo) who decided to terminate his PhD. This professor on purpose delayed the student's PhD for 2 years with bullying, coercion, fraud activities, forcing him to work for her own interests, although he was self-funded (after regular 4 years). When Hanxin requested to change supervisors, the professor promised to let him graduate by approving his PhD thesis in a few weeks. However, after getting his important academic results and full version of PhD thesis, she suddenly decided to terminate his PhD with baseless ground - 'failure to reach the minimum graduation requirement'. While she approved her other PhD students to graduate who only published 1 low-ranking paper. To terminate Hanxin’s PhD, she also fabricated stories and defamed Hanxin in the letter to TU Delft, and advised the university not to give the student any chance (e.g. changing supervisors).

Hanxin reported the stalking and trespass on his home that he experienced in 2024 after he was forced to leave the Netherlands by the 2nd supervisor (Dr. Linda Kamp), but chose to still stay there. Particularly a threatening letter was found in his home. All these criminal activities seem to force him to leave the country to avoid damage to the professor’s profile and keep silent to the PhD scandal forever (now still being stalked, harassed).

This PhD issue is a shocking scandal and shame of doctoral education worldwide. This professor seemed to deliberately block the student’s further success in the research field, meanwhile grabbing his important academic results and full version of PhD thesis (6 years of efforts) for her own career development. The university apparently chose to protect this professor despite of her illegal/criminal activities. Please stand with Hanxin and all students facing similar struggles, and speak out against the mistreatment. We demand:

1. Justice for Hanxin Zhao’s PhD: with 6 years of efforts, excellent work done, the student deserves a PhD degree!
2. A thorough investigation on the PhD scandal at TU Delft: the illegal/criminal activities of the professor, the stalking, harassment, trespass, the mismanagement of TU Delft must be investigated to avoid more students/employees being tortured in the future!
