Justice for Hadi

Justice for Hadi
The Issue
On February 9th, 2024, our beautiful and beloved son, brother and friend Hadi Diwan, was horrifically hit and killed by a reckless, negligent driver in Plano, Texas. This dangerous driver who failed to yield, ran a red light, turned three lanes wide crashing into Hadi, violently throwing him across the median causing him to smash into a light pole, and then onto another vehicle in oncoming traffic, killing him.
Hadi, who was only 21 years old, riding his motorcycle, wearing a helmet, following the safety and traffic laws, was killed by a distracted driver who chose to ignore basic traffic laws.
The investigating officer initially concluded that the driver should be charged with assault with a deadly weapon, and later lowered the charge to negligent homicide.
However, on June 27th, 2024 we were informed by the Prosecutor that the Collin County DA’s office will be disregarding the police charges and not prosecuting the driver. Thus, allowing this reckless and dangerous driver who killed Hadi an only son, to get away with ZERO CONSEQUENCES, despite violating traffic laws.
Unbelievably, the driver still has not even been issued a traffic ticket!
Our pain at Hadi's preventable and senseless killing is unimaginable. But our suffering has been compounded by the DA's office to take any action- no trial, no license suspension, no community service, no mandatory driver education, no probation, absolutely nothing, NOT EVEN a traffic citation.
This is not acceptable for killing someone.
We are demanding accountability:
There MUST be concrete accountability and penalties for this UNACCEPTABLE conduct on our roads to deter drivers from behaving irresponsibly.
Our demand is simple: We call upon Collin County DA Greg Willis to revisit this case and hold this negligent and reckless driver accountable for their actions by charging them.
Join us and sign this petition in demanding justice for Hadi and make our roads safer for all.
NOTE: In 2022, 1,149 people were killed in crashes caused by red light running in the United States, and more than 107,000 people were injured. This is an average of seven fatalities per day at traffic signal intersections. Red light running is the leading cause of crashes in the United States. The National Coalition for Safer Roads ranked Texas 2nd nationwide for red-light running fatalities.
