The Issue

On 11/9/24 A local woman Who works as a vet tech at a veterinary clinic in Brick, NJ, posted to social media that she had recovered what was thought to be a lost cat and made a post in an attempt to find the Owner. Later that same day, she brought the cat to the veterinary clinic where she worked and the cat was euthanized by the licensed veterinarian who was working there by the following morning. After many Attempts by the people who love and care for Gracie, to contact this person about the cat, just the following day after her post, We were all finally told that the euthanizing had already been carried out. In New Jersey, there is a seven day grace period for all found animals. This is a law put into place to prevent such tragedies and this veterinarian blatantly disregarded this law. Both the vet tech. and the veterinarian made claims that Gracie had cancer and also jaundice but no testing or evaluation was done and we her caretakers know this is untrue. Gracie had previously been picked up by the ASPCA where they spayed her, gave her vaccinations and a microchip which documents that she is part of a protected “colony” of free roam cats. The clinic also failed to scan the chip and or contact the ASPCA regarding Gracie, which would have shown that she was in her place of residence.

This petition is a call to act by the State of New Jersey and the ASPCA to prosecute the veterinary clinic and the two people responsible for the un rightful death of our beloved cat Gracie!
