Justice for Felix Musongo: Demand Accountability, Proper Charges, and Action Against Domestic Violence
On October the 13th 2024, Our brother Felix was killed by his own biological father. It was a Sunday evening and Felix was in his room at our village home at Siudiva, Nkurenkuru, when he suddenly heard a noise and upon going to see what the noise was, he saw his father had dragged his mother outside and was twisting her arm. He then asked, “what the meaning of this?” when he was met with no response, he then pushed his father off his mother. His father, Markus Musongo ran into the house and he and his mother followed him, Markus got his gun, Felix neither did nor said anything, He starred at him blankly. Felix’s mother told him to run but he just stood there and said, mother, let him do what he wants to do. Markus then shot Felix in the belly and took another shot at him from the back of the head through the neck. Markus said to the mother who had witnessed the entire horrific nightmare, “the last bullet is yours!”. Amalia (Felix’s mother) narrates that from the first gunshot to the belly, to the fatal head shot, Felix neither begged, screamed nor shouted in pain, not even so much as a huhh… Amalia, does not know how she got strength to get to the mini store to ask to be escorted to the neighbor’s house who is a police officer. Markus looked for her and when he did not find her by the mini store he returned home and they heard the third gun shot from the neighbor’s house. And after a while they saw his vehicle drive off in the direction of Kahenge.
We are petitioning for cold blooded murderers to be denied bail, those who intentionally take the lives and those who have no respect for human life and human dignity to be denied bail pending trial and sentencing to avoid more deaths and loss of confidence in the legal system.
Losing Musongo (Felix), our beautiful brother, son and uncle, has been the most horrific and shocking time of our lives.
Losing Musongo (Felix), our beautiful brother, son and uncle, has been the most horrific and shocking time of our lives.
Musongo (Felix) was the most beautiful, calm, gentle and caring soul and to most who knew him a mentor, though so young himself. He was extraordinary, handsome, a talented and knowledgeable individual, a person of integrity. He was in the prime of his life, he had recently received his qualification as a Mechanical Engineer. Our family is devastated and utterly robbed by his death.
He did not deserve to die in such a manner and neither does anybody else. For death to come searching for you in the comfort and confines of your own home, at the hands of your own father, is why this petition. This act of violence has devastated and traumatized Felix’s family and community, highlighting the urgent need to address domestic violence and ensure justice for victims.
Despite the severity of this case, we are concerned that the current charges may not fully reflect the gravity of this crime. We call on the Namibian judiciary and law enforcement to:
1. File all appropriate charges, including:
o Murder for the intentional and unjust taking of Felix’s life.
o Assault with intent to kill for any prior threats or escalating violence.
o Arms and ammunition violations for the unlawful use of a firearm.
2. Conduct a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation.
3. Guarantee a fair and swift trial, free from delays or external influence.
Felix was a belovedson, brother, uncle and community member. His life was taken in a cruel act ofviolence, leaving an irreplaceable void in the hearts of those who knew him.
Justice for Felix is not just about holding his killer accountable—it is aboutensuring that no family endures a similar tragedy.
The murderer had also previously threatened people with fire arms and his gun had been confiscated by the police. However because Markus has contacts within the Kavango West regional police, he got his fire arm back, how and under which merits is unknown.
Musongo’s (Felix) death could have been avoided, if his killer had not been given back his fire arm that was supposed to be under police custody.
