The Issue

A horse named Domingo is dead. He was dragged behind a pickup truck, up and down a driveway, multiple times, while he squealed in pain. A neighbor watched it happen. A veterinarian documented it. His hooves were ground down to the flesh.

Jo Marie Westlind of Columbia County, Oregon has been arrested and charged with two felony counts of first-degree aggravated animal abuse, four counts of first-degree animal abuse, and two counts of animal neglect. When deputies visited her home, she said what happened to Domingo was "an accident." She claimed she was training him to load.

You do not train a horse by dragging him behind a truck. Domingo's injuries told the truth.

We are calling on the Columbia County District Attorney to prosecute all eight charges to the fullest extent of the law — no reductions, no dismissals, no plea deals that minimize what Domingo endured. We are also calling for a lifetime ban on animal ownership as part of any sentencing, so that no animal ever suffers at her hands again.

Domingo cannot speak for himself. He cannot ask for justice. We can.

Sign this petition and demand that Columbia County holds Jo Marie Westlind fully accountable for what she did to Domingo.
