On May 13th, 2022, Deshaun Durham of Manhattan, Kansas was sentenced to 92 months, nearly 8 years, in prison for marijuana. Deshaun was originally charged with possession with intent to distribute, within 1000 feet of a school in June 2020. It was his first offense. Over the last 2 years Deshaun has stayed out of trouble, held a job he enjoys, and has proven he can be a contributable member of society and to the community of Manhattan. This sentence is unjust and the Judge in this case has been known to give cruel and unusual punishments in the past.
