Justice for Candia-Bailey: Hold Lincoln University Accountable for Institutional Betrayal

Justice for Candia-Bailey: Hold Lincoln University Accountable for Institutional Betrayal
The Issue
Dr. Antoinette Candia-Bailey, former VP at Lincoln University, tragically died by suicide on January 8, 2024, after enduring months of workplace bullying, allegedly at the hands of University President Dr. John B. Moseley. Despite requesting accommodations for her depression, she was mocked by leadership and fired just days before her death.
Suicide is never caused by just one thing. It is the result of overlapping pressures (emotional, social, and systemic) that build over time. The documented workplace bullying and institutional neglect created unbearable circumstances that contributed to Dr. Candia-Bailey’s death.
This is institutional betrayal.
We, the undersigned, demand radical reform at Lincoln University to address the systemic failures that led to Dr. Candia-Bailey’s death—a tragedy that exposes a culture of silencing Black women, protecting abusers, and prioritizing power over people.
Our Demands:
— Immediate Removal of President Moseley: His leadership perpetuates harm and discredits the institution. He must be removed within 7 days.
— Hold April Robinson Accountable: As HR director, Robinson failed to support another black woman who was suffering. She must be removed within 12 days.
— Resignation of the Board of Curators: Their inaction in the face of documented harm demonstrates negligence and complicity. The Board must resign within 40 days.
— Release the Full Investigation Report: Make the unredacted report public now. Then conduct a new independent review led by experts in racial trauma and workplace abuse.
— Dismantle HR and Replace It With a Trauma-Informed Advocacy Center: HR has failed. Replace it with a survivor-centered department grounded in healing, culturally responsive support, and true accountability.
— Establish an Independent Review Board: Create a board with binding oversight to ensure accountability and implement reforms addressing systemic racism and workplace abuse.
Why Now?
Though Dr. Candia-Bailey passed in January 2024, this campaign is gaining momentum. The petition and a public open letter are calling on Lincoln University to act now — not just reflect on the past. Justice delayed is not justice denied.
