Justice for Caitríona

Justice for Caitríona
The Issue
The Officer in Charge on the day of Caitriona Lucas’s accident in Kilkee is now the Officer in Charge in The Doolin unit of the Irish Coast Guard. This is despite numerous complaints made about him during his tenure in Kilkee, where he oversaw, as the Coroner put it, 'a brain drain in the Unit', necessitating Catriona's assistance from the Doolin Unit due to such low numbers in Kilkee.
On the day of the accident Caitriona struggled consciously in the water for 17 minutes and was revivable for several further minutes.
As establisehd in the Inquest, an official Kilkee 2nd rescue boat was approximately 10 minutes away but was not launched because this same individual would not crew it and drove off in a jeep ordering another volunteer to go with him leaving the rescue boat with no crew, thereby leaving Catriona to her fate.
We insist that the Officer in Charge at Doolin be removed to prevent similar future tragedies. It is necessary for the accountability and safety of our brave Coast Guard volunteers. We urge everyone to take a stand for Caitríona and sign this petition.
