Justice for Bella: Stand With Our Community
On April 27, 2026, our community lost Izabella Maria "Bella" Gamez, a beautiful 18-year-old whose life was taken far too soon.
Bella was more than a victim. She was a beloved daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend, and a bright light to everyone who knew her. She was kind, compassionate, joyful, and deeply loved. She had dreams to pursue, people to love, and a future that should have been hers.
Instead, her family now visits a cemetery.
No parent should have to bury their child. No family should have to live with the empty chair at the table, the unanswered phone calls, or the overwhelming love that has nowhere to go. Bella's life mattered, and her loss has left a hole that can never be filled.
Since Bella's death, our family has heard countless stories from friends, classmates, teachers, coworkers, and neighbors about the difference she made in their lives. In only eighteen years, she touched more people than most do in a lifetime. Her life mattered..not only to her family, but to this entire community.
Bella's murder did not happen in isolation. Our community has witnessed an alarming rise in violent crime, and too many families are being forced to experience unimaginable loss. In Bella's case, the individual accused of taking her life had been released from custody just three days before her murder. Just weeks later, another young person was shot in our community. These tragedies have left many asking the same question:
When will enough be enough?
This petition is not about revenge.
It is about accountability.
It is about protecting innocent lives.
We respectfully ask the Henderson County District Attorney's Office to continue pursuing Bella's case with diligence and integrity, seeking every charge and every lawful penalty supported by the evidence and North Carolina law.
