Bringing awareness and hoping for justice for my daughter Bailey Fanopoulos. Please read & share.
On the morning of November 22nd 2021, my daughter was the victim of a horrific & tragic attack in Middleton Idaho and was brutally stabbed by a guy named Wyatt Cunningham.
Bailey is the most giving kind hearted girl. She was friends with Wyatt’s wife Jordyn Cunningham, she went to their wedding and knew of him to an extent but obviously not well.
Wyatt asked Bailey if she would help him Christmas shop for his wife Jordyn & their unborn baby. Bailey was kind and agreed. They set a time and date, and in broad daylight Bailey was on her way.
She arrived to Wyatt’s house a tad late as she was coming from a job interview to pick him up and go shopping. He lives with his parents and Jordyn but he was the only one home at that time)
He came outside when she arrived around 11:30AM and explained that they couldn’t go shopping anymore and he’s sorry because Jordyn was going to be home early & he could give her gas money. She said no worries at all. He then invited her into the house to see the babies nursery him and Jordyn had just finished. Bailey agreed to come in.
She left her window open and purse in the car. She had no plans of going inside the house.
He lured her to his house and lured her into the house.
From the time of her stepping into the house, and into the nursery Wyatt was with her during that time and never left the room. (Which means he had the knife in his pocket the whole time)
She chatting with Wyatt for maybe 2 minutes, turned her head to look at the crib in the nursery … that’s when he violently struck in the shoulder by a giant kitchen knife. Bailey was confused at first. She thought maybe it was a fake knife or he was pretending because she was so in shock that her brain couldn’t comprehend that he was full force stabbing her.
Wyatt continued to attack her and struck her in the shoulder, her leg, tried to cut her neck (which she used her hands to stop, he cut her chin, then he stabbed the top of her head.
At this time she didn’t know, but the tip of the knife broke off in her leg which saved her life. When he struck her in the head then knife bent and he was shocked and dropped the knife.
She was able to fight back and run into the bathroom. While in the bathroom she took her sweatshirt off and leaned against the wall to put pressure on her wound. She was non stop bleeding everywhere in and out of consciousness & attempted to lock herself in the bathroom where she was away from Wyatt. She tried to call 911.
Wyatt entered the bathroom and took her cell phone away. Bailey then crawled over and made sure to lock the bathroom door at that point.
Wyatt was frantically pacing by the bathroom door saying things like “Bailey say something, are you with me” “what are you going to tell the police” etc. Bailey stayed silent left there bleeding to die.
About 10 minutes passed & she heard her friend jordyns voice in the distance she screamed “ help call 911 he stabbed me “
Wyatt told his wife “don’t go in the bathroom I stabbed Bailey youll puke”
Bailey hear them arguing Wyatt said “what are we going to do?” Joydan said “you stabbed her, what do you mean what are we going to do?”
Finally Jordyn went in and helped Bailey. She called 911 & an ambulance arrived. (Which saved her life)
Wyatt was arrested & he admitted to the police he stabbed Bailey..
Neighbors said that Wyatt was laughing and smiling in the back of the cop car being taken away.. sick.
Bailey was given a blood transfusion due to the amount of blood she lost. She was rushed to Saint Alphonsus.
I received the call from the police stating my daughter was stabbed multiple times.
After 3 days and 2 nights at the hospital we were able to go home. Bailey was released from the hospital with fear, shock, stitches, a sling, and trauma. Now we can start healing or we thought….
After talking to detectives and sherrifs we were told that prison won’t like knowing this guy stabbed a young girl. And that he would be going away for a long time.
The cop said it was definitely attempted murder but they wanted to use the other charges because they didn’t have to do the work to prove anything in court for those as there was evidence with the wounds on Bailey, and wyatt had admitted right away.
Wyatt’s bond was set at 1 million. When someone commits a crime such as this. The state is against them. It’s the states duty to do whatever they can to protect our people & keep us safe.. they are failing us. We don’t have any say.
After months and months of hearings where my daughter has to face her murder and see him on zoom each of those about 5 seconds long between the state & wyatts lawyer (wyatts mom & wife hired a lawyer to try and release him early)
we were told from the state attorney and the victim witness coordinator that they would not be giving ANY deals to Wyatt.. they seemed to be on our side. We heard that Wyatt’s lawyer was trying to get him to not serve any time and only do a rider. How ridiculous is that..
After the last hearing we were told there would be mediation between the state & the lawyer. All parties determined That this is a prison case and Wyatt would be doing jail time they just needed to deliberate how much.
Wyatt was originally charged with:
⁃ aggravated battery with a weapon enhancement
⁃ Interrupting a telephone 911 call
⁃ intimidating a witness
After mediation and being told the state would not be giving any deals, The prosecuting office called my daughter and told her they mediated to give Wyatt 2 years.
2 YEARS ?!
Aggravated battery with a weapon enhancement is a 15 year charge. That’s only ONE of his charges which were dropped!
While all of this is going on we’ve been contacted by multiple young women who have also been a victim of Wyatt’s actions previously including guns, sick actions, & more.
The state put him in intermountain for a night years ago and then released him after multiple threats to multiple people one of which threatening to shoot up meridian high school.
2 years is not just.
My daughter has to carry this with her… for her entire life. She is a senior in high school and is known as the girl who was stabbed.
She has scars that can’t be removed and trauma that cannot be undone. And the tip of the knife in her leg forever!
While we understand the system is designed for rehabilitation and know that Wyatt cannot go away forever for his actions, we believe he should do time for the crime he committed & it should also be considered that letting someone of his nature into the public is endangering all young women & we have to worry who his next victim will be.
In one of the hearings, Wyatt’s lawyer put in a request for him to be let out of jail for a day to attend an uncles funeral. When asked how the state objected to this, they highly objected and said “ due to the nature of this case and the defendant admitting he had no reason to stab the victim we highly object.
The defendant stated that he had always wanted to know what it felt like to stab someone since he was young” therefore he was a danger to the public and they denied letting him out for a day.
In all of this we have been silent. We have been hoping for the state, the county & the prosecuting attorneys office to do right by us and serve justice for Bailey. Instead they’ve made countless statements to my family insisting that he would be given no deals, that he would be going away for a long time, and more. On top of continuously letting us down. To get a call for a 2 year sentence that truly should’ve been premeditated attempted murder in my eyes as my baby was left to die.. is absurd??
Just know you can go to jail longer for a marijuana / drug charge then if you go stab someone multiple times and leave them to die in Idaho..
I’m asking for the media & my friends support in hoping and asking for JustIce for Bailey, And to help put this man away for the crime he commited for longer than a summer or so after time served..
How did the charges go from what they were to mediated and dropped ? Did they just rush this case to get it over with because they were backed up from Covid ? Did they not look into the threat he would be in our general public, the countless events with Wyatt that have happened before that could’ve potentially been looked into and prevented this one? And most especially, the fact that they are letting him off easy to be able to get away with and commit these horrific crimes again..? Which I don’t doubt he will, as his track record shows no different.
If Bailey didn’t fight back, she would be dead.
If Jordyn (Wyatt’s wife) didn’t get home in time bailey would’ve been left there to bleed out and die.
If the tip of that knife didn’t break off in baileys knee, and penetrated through the next stab wound which was her head, she would be dead.
The court needs to take all of this into consideration and do their job to keep us safe.
What would they do if this happened to their daughter, sister, brother, niece..?
This is not just! Sign this petition to show the Judge and state that this is not what justice looks like. This is attempted murder, and should be charged as such!
