Justice For Ashley: Keep Her Rapist Behind The Bars For Life!
The Issue
Ashley Yakimchuk, an 18-year-old Canadian, came to Australia in 2013 while on a work vacation, full of hopes for new experiences. Unfortunately, her journey was not as glamorous as she had hoped. After she innocently posted an ad for part-time work on Gumtree, Ashley became a victim of assault by Pierre Mol, a Sydney artist and professor at UNSW. Mol is a now-convicted rapist who left her with deep wounds and a terror that still plagues her.
Ashley is only one of many women who were taken advantage of by Mol's cunning and predatory actions. The scary truth is that Mol could be released early despite his conviction, which is a terrifying possibility. The protection of vulnerable people must be given top priority by the judicial system, which also has a moral obligation to make sure that victims are respected and heard rather than re-traumatized by rulings that return their perpetrators to the streets.
Many survivors, like Ashley, dedicate years to reconstructing their lives while holding out hope that the legal system will hold their abusers accountable. Allowing Mol's release before the full completion of his sentence will minimize the seriousness of his crimes and ignore the trauma he caused.
We demand that the justice system take decisive action to stop Mol from being released. When the courts consider releasing someone with such a heinous and hazardous history, they must be aware of the message they are sending to survivors.
To demonstrate our dedication to justice and the strength of people's voices in aiding victims, we implore you to sign this petition and demand that the legal system protect civilians like Ashley. Let's work together to keep criminals incarcerated so they can no longer endanger the lives of innocent people.
