The Issue
City of Solon HR Director Yolanda Guzman (54) caught on camera blocking the path of front desk secretary Allyne Castella-Zamchek (75) after spinning her out of her chair, causing Allyne to fall on the ground. Allyne suffered a broken tailbone and an injury to her head as a result. However, the video released by city officials *conveniently* doesn’t include the moment that Allyne was spun out of her chair by Yolanda Guzman and fell to the ground. City leaders MUST be held accountable for this!
Justice for Allyne! Tell Solon city officials to fire City Human Resources Director Yolanda Guzman IMMEDIATELY!
On Thursday, September 7th 2023, Director of Human Resources for the city of Solon Yolanda Guzman was caught on security camera footage assaulting Allyne Castella-Zamchek, an elderly woman who works as the front desk secretary at Solon city hall. Claiming that Allyne was “disrespectful” to her by not talking to her face-to-face, Yolanda Guzman felt the need to use physical force to get Allyne to face her. Yolanda Guzman then grabbed Allyne’s chair and forcefully spun it around, causing Allyne to fall on the ground resulting in a broken tailbone and an injury to her head.
If Yolanda Guzman were any other city employee, she would’ve been fired immediately. In the private sector, she would’ve been fired immediately. However, instead of firing her, city leaders decided to “suspend her without pay for eight weeks” and she “is required to obtain anger management counseling”, according to a letter of discipline delivered by attorney Barry Freeman of Roetzel & Andress in Cleveland on September 12th on behalf of the City of Solon.
According to the letter, Yolanda Guzman will be terminated if she engages in another physical altercation, other than self-defense, upon her reinstatement on November 7th.
This is absolutely infuriating! Yolanda Guzman should NOT be reinstated whatsoever! She has shown the community that she lacks the self control and decency to interact with her fellow colleagues in a proper manner! She had one job as HR Director, to be a resourceful human, and she can’t even get that right! She does NOT deserve the nearly $100,000 salary provided by public tax funds to do her job! Other employees of the city of Solon as well as Solon residents have already expressed their outrage, making it clear that the community does NOT trust Yolanda Guzman to return to her job as a leader representing the city of Solon.
What makes the situation even more disgusting is the fact that city leaders chose to victim-blame Allyne after the incident. In a letter to Guzman, city officials wrote: “In light of those facts, Allyne is being reprimanded for being unprofessional and disrespectful to you… In the future, she should maturely discuss matters with her colleagues – face-to-face.”
Hell to the NO! Allyne did NOTHING wrong, yet city officials felt the need to reprimand her for being “unprofessional and disrespectful”??? Was Yolanda Guzman not “unprofessional and disrespectful” when she assaulted Allyne, causing her to injure her head and break her tailbone? As the Director of Human Resources, did she see physical force as the only option to resolve whatever conflict she felt was there? She’s clearly unfit to do her job.
Sign this petition and tell city officials to terminate Yolanda Guzman’s contract as Director of Human Resources for the city of Solon immediately! Justice for Allyne!
