On September 14, 2023, tragedy struck when Abnerd Joseph, a beloved 32-year-old Assistant Principal at Intrinsic Schools, was brutally murdered in Chicago. This petition is personal to me because I am deeply affected by the loss of my dear friend and colleague. It is with a heavy heart that I write this petition to demand justice for Abnerd and call upon Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx to take immediate action by arresting Garrett Smith.

According to Joseph's brother, Garrett Smith, a 45-year-old white man residing just four doors down from Abnerd on the 29th floor of 60 E. Monroe in Chicago, pursued him relentlessly. Shockingly, Smith chased Abnerd all the way up to the 48th floor before mercilessly shooting him seven times without any provocation or justification. It is important to note that Abnerd was unarmed and in his robe and boxers during this horrifying incident.

Despite overwhelming evidence supporting these facts, no criminal charges have been filed against Garrett Smith thus far. This lack of action not only undermines our faith in the justice system but also perpetuates a sense of injustice within our community.

We believe it is crucial for Cook County State's Attorney Kim Foxx to fulfill her duty as an advocate for justice and ensure that no one can evade accountability for such heinous acts. By signing this petition today, we urge Kim Foxx to promptly file charges against Garrett Smith and demonstrate her commitment towards protecting innocent lives within our community.
