Justice for a Father: End Corruption in the Wyoming Police Department

Justice for a Father: End Corruption in the Wyoming Police Department
The Issue
My name is Di’ette Weed, and I’m a full-time father raising four sons. On May 13, 2025, I was falsely arrested at my own home in Wyoming, Michigan—not for breaking the law, but for being present to get my son off the school bus.
That day, the mother of my children, Renika Weed, violated a clear agreement that all custody exchanges were to happen at the Wyoming Police Department. Instead, she showed up at my residence, created a public disturbance, and falsely accused me of assault. Despite me having video evidence, prior email warnings, and camera footage proving my innocence, I was arrested—while standing in front of my home with my children.
I had informed authorities of threats Renika made, and I had clear documentation showing I had done everything right. But the officers chose not to review my evidence. They ignored my cameras, my calendar records, and my warning emails. They listened to a lie and placed me in handcuffs, in front of my children, for being a present, protective, and peaceful father.
This injustice continues to cause harm. My son is scheduled to have surgery on May 27, 2025—a procedure he needs for his health and well-being. But now, he cannot get that surgery because I’ve been ordered to appear in court for a pretrial hearing on the same day. The court is forcing me to choose between my son’s medical care and fighting false charges that never should have been filed in the first place.
This is not just about one arrest. This is about a system where corrupt practices, unchecked bias, and failures in protocol continue to harm innocent parents—especially fathers who are active and present in their children’s lives.
--What I’m Asking For:
I am calling on the Wyoming Police Department, City Officials, and Michigan State Oversight Agencies to take the following actions:
1. Conduct an independent investigation into the officers and leadership involved in my wrongful arrest.
2. Release all bodycam footage, dispatch logs, and written reports related to the May 13, 2025, incident.
3. Hold officers accountable who failed to follow evidence and protocol.
4. Create a formal review system to ensure all family-related cases are handled fairly, with respect for both parents' rights and safety.
5. Provide protections for fathers and parents who are targeted or falsely accused in custody-related conflicts.
6. Ensure courts make accommodations for urgent parental responsibilities, such as medical care for children.
Why This Matters:
I’m not just fighting for myself. I’m fighting for every parent—especially every Black father—who’s been punished for showing up for their kids. I’m fighting for families who are being torn apart by a justice system that often looks the other way.
If it can happen to me, it can happen to any father.
My kids deserve to see their father protected—not punished—and to receive the medical care they need without interference from a system that’s supposed to help, not hurt.
