Justice and Expedited Action for PSLF

Justice and Expedited Action for PSLF
The Issue
Public servants across the nation are facing unacceptable delays in processing Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) applications, buyback requests, and employment certifications. While the standard for PSLF BuyBacks is 45 days, many are waiting six months to a year, with similar delays affecting many PSLF-related actions. These bureaucratic failures are not just inconveniences; they are profoundly detrimental. Thousands of dedicated public servants, including myself, who have committed a decade to high-need communities, are unjustly trapped in financial limbo. Our lives and career aspirations are on hold, and the very promise of PSLF is being undermined. Adding to the injustice, many borrowers are being forced into administrative forbearances—often linked to SAVE plan challenges—that do not count towards PSLF. This effectively erases months of dedicated service, despite our proactive efforts to remain in eligible repayment. These delays and non-counting statuses lead to: * Hindered Career Advancement: Preventing transitions to new opportunities. * Delayed Life Milestones: Blocking financial planning for homes, families, and retirement. * Increased Financial and Mental Strain: Creating constant anxiety and stress. * Erosion of Trust: Discouraging future generations from public service. We demand the Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid office immediately: * Prioritize and expedite all pending PSLF cases. * Retroactively count all periods of administrative forbearance directly related to PSLF processing delays, system transitions, or IDR plan challenges as qualifying payments. Public servants must not be penalized for government failures. * Provide clear, immediate guidance on how borrowers can ensure payments count while applications or plan changes are pending. * Offer clear pathways to receive credit for months spent in non-counting forbearances without further delays. * Acknowledge and address the broader impacts of these failures and provide clear recourse for affected borrowers. It is time to honor the commitment made to public servants. Sign and share this petition to urge immediate action and ensure justice for those who have dedicated their lives to serving our communities. Please sign and share to demand justice on these issues.
