We, the undersigned, are deeply outraged and heartbroken by the tragic death of OSCAR EZEANI a 13-year-old student of BRITISH SPRING COLLEGE AWKA which occurred under deeply concerning and avoidable circumstances.

Reports from parents, students, and community members point to gross negligence, mistreatment, and a lack of adequate care and supervision on the part of the school’s administration and staff. This tragedy reflects a devastating failure of duty, one that has cost a young life and shaken public confidence in the institution’s ability to ensure the safety and wellbeing of its students.

Oscar who was just 13 and full of life has had not only his life, but his hopes and dreams cut off. His dream of going home for holidays? Cut short. He was a child, a baby! While other children are celebrating Christmas with their families Oscar’s family will be burying him. Is this the reality of living in Nigeria?

A school is meant to be a place of learning, protection, and growth. It is unacceptable that a child entrusted to the care of educators could be subjected to neglect or cruelty severe enough to result in death. The pain of this loss is shared not only by the family but by the entire nation that values the lives and futures of its children.

We therefore demand the following:

 1. A full, transparent, and independent investigation by the Federal and State Ministries of Education, as well as relevant child protection agencies, into the circumstances surrounding this student’s death.

 2. Immediate suspension of the school’s license and administrative operationspending the outcome of the investigation.

 3. Criminal accountability for any staff members, administrators, or individuals found to have contributed through action or inaction to the child’s suffering and death.

 4. Stronger enforcement of student welfare and safety standards across all boarding and private schools in Nigeria to prevent such tragedies from ever happening again.

This petition seeks not only justice for the deceased child and their grieving family but also systemic reform to ensure that no parent ever has to bury their child due to institutional negligence or cruelty again.

We, the people, call upon the Ministry of Education, the Anambra State Government, and all relevant authorities to act swiftly, transparently, and decisively. Silence and inaction would make us all complicit in this injustice.

Justice must be served.

Accountability must be enforced.

Our children must be protected.
