Just Say No - Rumble Buc-ees Must Go .. Elsewhere
The Issue
A petition to let Monroe County Planning and Zoning and the Board of Commissioners that we are NOT ok with Buc-ees coming to Rumble Road.
We’re not ok with 7000-11000 cars exiting each day, we’re not ok with that same traffic trying to exit on half the distance of other ramps, we’re not ok with that same traffic trying to merge into into two lanes of traffic, we’re not ok with the amount of crime that the traffic can bring into our residential areas.
We’re not against Buc-ees as a whole, but take it to a populated area with a state highway system to sustain it
“The Nays”
Traffic
According to local articles, on average 7300 cars A DAY enter the store in Warner Robins, which rises as high as 11000 cars during holiday weeks such as Christmas/Thanksgiving, so at least that many additional people with most cars having at least 2 in them traveling, so I believe it would be easy and safe to double those numbers for travelers, although I’m sure it’s quite higher.
The intended area is serviced by short interstate ramps, both north and southbound, in fact, they are half the length of the ramps in Warner Robins Georgia and Adairsville Georgia, which already stay backed up into lanes of I-75 traffic
This presents issues with deceleration as a whole for automobiles & CMVs, the merging of those two, the congestion with all traffic as we have seen increase through the years due to the expansion of the Georgia ports / truck traffic as I-16 merges with I-75 a mere 12 or so miles southeast of the interchange of I-475 which also brings it all back together hoping the vast majority of those don’t try to slow down or speed up and merge in that brief 2.5-3.0 mile to exit for the Buc-ees.
Roads
Rumble Road is a two lane road, one lane eastbound, one lane westbound to include the two lane bridge across I-75. The Warner Robins store is fed by a bridge twice as long, twice and wide, a four lane road, and three lanes going into the store and three lanes coming out of the store, none of which we have here, nor do we want here.
The Adairsville store sits on a state highway, also 4 lanes, and turns into a side street with multiple lanes as well to access the storefront.
Seemingly the area intended is also directly across the street from our industrial park, currently serviced by commercial motor vehicles ie 18 wheelers which oftentimes don’t mesh well with “four wheelers” who seemingly forget that 80k pounds can’t stop nor start on a dime
So I ask, who is responsible for the needed traffic lights, the needed bridge expansion, the needed roadway expansion? And more importantly repairs that is already needed..
Is Buc-ees going to or willing to build a new bridge? Build the new roads/lanes, expand the exits on interstate 75 north and south
And if so, how is that fitting in with the “truck lanes” they say are coming, which would also be directly through that area… yall do remember that right? Officials saying we have a truck traffic issue through here and need a resolution
I’m not sure this is it
The infrastructure
Do we really have enough water and sewage capacity to handle that?
I’m not so sure…. I’m not a water and sewage guy, so if you are an expert on that, I’m all ears for your expert opinion please
Storm water run-off and potential fuel spills..
Where is it going, retention ponds I’m sure is the quick answer, but that’s not the solid answer, what will be put in place to clean that water run-off (and potential spill) before it hits that pond and soaks into the ground here in Monroe County.
I think we all have had our fill of groundwater issues thus far, maybe I’m wrong on that, but I bet not.
Public Safety
Let me express this… this is not a “dig” against our PS, in fact it’s a push for more, but what are we going to do when, not if, but when something catches fire there.
The closest “manned” fire station is in Bolingbroke or Forsyth, assuming they are not on an EMS call.
As of now (and yes I know it’s coming) there isn’t even a fire station in Smarr, but once rebuilt who will man it, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year to handle the influx of call volume, fire safety, EMS, haz-mat, for something this large (and other things coming).
The volunteers? The answer is NO, we simply don’t have them, this isn’t just here, but nationwide there is a decrease in the ranks of volunteer firefighters…
It’s time for paid… 24/7/365 here in Monroe if this is to occur. In my humble opinion, it’s past time for that.
Regarding law enforcement, with the massive influx of car and CMV traffic (there already) how many more Deputies is Buc-ees (and other companies) willing to pay for, to handle the influx of motor vehicle crashes both on the interstate and our county roadway, the influx of crime rate that follows interstate travel (look it up, it’s a real thing) for entering autos, automobile theft, burglary etc.
We have one of the largest counties in Georgia that requires patrol… that patrol will diminish when our Deputies are tied up with constant traffic & interstate crime issues.
If this is to occur.. it’s time for more Deputies, in a time when it’s hard to hire more cops, it requires money.
Is Buc-ees (and others) gonna help for the salary increase as well?
Residential
Within a stones throw “on a good windy day” we have residences with values of and over 1/2 million dollars, some considerabley less and some considerabley more but I think the vast majority of those (including me) that live in the area, we didn’t intend to move, build and settle into an area of peaceful Monroe county to have 7000-11000 more cars and people influxing into our area.
