Take Solihull, Warwickshire and Coventry out of tier 3 Covid 19 banding
The Issue
In the current government announcement regarding COVID-19 made today 26/11/2020, England announced the move into the Three tier system once again!
Obviously people in tier 3 will be disappointed but when you are banded in a region with such huge discrepancies and variationsI think it’s wholly very unfair!
Solihull in general has much lower rolling rate at under 200 in a lot of areas which is a huge difference compared to areas of Birmingham which have well over 400!
It is therefore more than just disappointing to know the West Midlands has been banded as one area to adhere to the same tier as some of the more concerning areas further north!
This will massively impact local businesses and especially small business owners where their main income is what they make in the run up to Christmas! In a year which has been unprecedented and we have seen cases of Covid rising due to more testing being readily available as well as it spreading, many people have lost their jobs, potentially lost their homes, relationships have ended, kids have gone without their full education and people are struggling with poor mental health! All our public services are being stretched to the limits and all because we are trusting and relying that the government are making safe but at least fair decisions.
At this point during another national lockdown people are wondering what is the actual point of a lockdown if certain areas are still so massively high with Covid cases and yet Smaller neighbouring areas are now paying the price for other larger areas not heeding the government’s advice. It’s sad that this hasn’t been looked at more closely because if it was, I don’t feel that the whole of the West Midlands would have been banded together in tier 3.
Please take into account the smaller areas where people are adhering to the actual advice and should therefore have a little more freedom to see the people that they care about. This will help with overall morale and mental health as well as helping financial situations and local economy to grow again.
Please don’t band large areas together and rethink this decision before the tier system comes back into effect on 2nd December.
