Judicial Inquiry into Miscarriages of Justice in Wales between 1982-2025

The Issue

Michael O'Brien was notoriously falsely imprisoned for the murder of a Cardiff Newsagent in 1988. His sentence was overturned in 1999 and he successfully sued  South Wales Police, eventually receiving a large financial compensation in 2006.

In the first part of his new book the Dossier he presents new evidence of his own case and nine others and calls into question the actions of the police which led to his and other wrongful convictions.

These cases concern the convictions of twenty-three people who between them have spent eighty years in prison between 1982 to 2025

The earliest case was Anthony Yellen, and includes the Welsh conspiracy trial, the case of the Darvell brothers in Swansea, the Cardiff three,Johnathan Jones, the Merthyr arson case and the Clydach Murders.

We  call for a judicial inquiry set up by a retired high Court Judge to look at all these dubious cases and to look at the methods of policing between 1982 to 2025 and if any evidence is found to hold all those responsible for causing these miscarriages of justice over a period of 30 years including the solicitors, barristers, police and Crown Prosecution service.

Secondly and most importantly to reopen all the cases in the interests of  the victims families and obtain justice for them and the victims of the Miscarriage of Justices.
