Governments should provide air purifiers such as Corsi–Rosenthal boxes for every classroom

The Issue

Many schools lack proper ventilation and air filtration systems in classrooms, leading to kids catching and spreading airborne diseases such as Covid-19, flu, RSV, etc. Anyone who catches the coronavirus including young people can be harmed by it, especially from repeat infections. Some of these effects are long covid, permanent organ damage, blood clots, heart disease, immune system dysfunction, and even death. As of 12/28/2022, 1,593 kids in the US alone have lost their lives because of covid. Covid and lifelong organ damage affecting children can be easily avoided if the governments provide air purifiers, such as Corsi-Rosenthal boxes, in every classroom.

The situation with the air indoors and in school rooms today is similar to when about a hundred and fifty years ago in London, people drank water that was mixed with sewage, which sparked the cholera epidemic. But the people then didn’t just do nothing and hope that by getting cholera everyone would somehow become “immune”. They had to build a huge sewage system which was an enormous engineering task for the time but effectively eliminated the cholera epidemic, and today we can’t imagine drinking water mixed with sewage as they once unknowingly did. In this same way, the air indoors that kids inhale in classrooms is dangerous and spreads diseases, and it needs to be cleaned.

If every classroom has clean and uncontaminated air then airborne diseases will be much less common at schools and in communities. Many volunteers are building DIY air purifiers, but there are not enough purifiers and many schools refuse to take them because of various reasons. However, if governments provide air purifiers then every classroom will have them. But if we don’t take action to clean the air, children will continue to get diseases at schools and also bring them home to their families. Already, 229,000 kids have lost one or both parents because of the coronavirus, but for many kids, it is not too late to clean the air by signing this petition.

Please sign this petition now to ask governments to provide air purifiers for every classroom so all of us kids can grow up to live healthy lives.
