Jesse Ryan Walters has been in prison since 2010. He was blamed for the meth overdose and death of his friend, Jason Michael Thomas. Jesse and Jason were partners in their illegal business. Jesse had the connection for the drugs, but they were both selling meth. Jesse wasn't with Jason the night that he overdosed. We had actually begged Jason to stay with us and go downtown for my 21st birthday party. Jason refused and was determined to go because he wanted to make a drug deal to make money, but he was pulled over and swallowed the 3 1/2 grams of meth he had and overdosed. I am in no way disrespecting Jason or his family, but Jesse is not at fault for Jason's death. They were both in the wrong, they were both selling and using meth. I was Jesse's girlfriend at that time, and I'm a witness to everything that happened because I was living with Jesse and Jason too at one point. Jesse lost his best friend and his freedom. Jesse was faced with the decision of getting life in prison or agree to admitting to selling the drugs that killed Jason and get 27 years. He had no choice but to take the deal. His current release date is in the spring of 2033. Two people didn't have to lose their lives. Jesse may have deserved prison time, but not for this long. He is one of the most kind, genuine, and good-hearted people I've ever known. Other people I know who know him tell me the same thing, that he doesn't deserve to be in there and that he's a good person. During Jesse's time served, he has taken every class he could, taught a class, and was a suicide companion for other inmates. He was recently transferred to Sandstone, MN, to a lower security prison because his points were re-evaluated and it was recognized that he is not violent. Please re-evaluate his case and set this man free so he can be a productive member of society that I know he will be either way, and so that two people don't have to lose their lives.
