Just a few short days ago, the Ukrainian people were going about their days just as you are right now. Imagine for a moment, you are taking your kids to the park, going to work, shopping for the week. 

Suddenly an invasion force of over 100 thousand troops begin converging upon you. You now have to do something you never dreamed of doing. Sending your children away across the border if you can, as if it were the blitz in WWII. Look at your children if you have them and imagine looking into their eyes, knowing that it may well be for the last time. You then take up arms to defend yourself and your country, mentally preparing to kill or be killed.

We must act now! Sanctions are a step in the right direction but they are not enough. Actions must be taken to stop Russia immediately. Ukraine needs diplomatic and military support. "Solidarity", lighting up monuments in the colours of Ukraine and liking on social media are great but ineffective. Our values mean nothing if we turn our backs on our friends when their very existence is being threatened. We need to step up now. Martin Luther King Jr said "in the end we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." 

By signing this petition, you call upon the western governments of the world to honour the wishes of Ukraine;

1) Grant them membership in the EU as they have requested.

2) Grant them military support immediately. They have requested for the US made THAAD defence system, which could be swatting Russian missiles out of the sky as we speak. Hundreds of missiles have already hit Ukrainian cities in just a few days. Putin is of course, against this being supplied to Ukraine, which has caused the US to hesitate. However, this purely defensive technology poses no threat as an offensive weapon, it will merely stop missiles before they impact the ground, saving lives. We also need to send reinforcement troops and any other equipment to even the playing field as requested.

Ukrainians are fighting valiantly, but they are a small country, facing one of the largest military forces in the world. The time is NOW, People are dying on both sides with every hour that passes.

We claim to hold up the ideals of freedom and democracy. Well that is what is at stake here.
If we can go to war in the Middle East, we can sure as hell go into battle for these ideals to aid our friends in Ukraine who are calling out for our help. Will you answer?

Our hearts are with the people of Ukraine and the vast number of Russians who are risking arrest, or have been arrested for protesting this war.
