With more than $1 billion sent to Haiti every year, the former president Michel Martelly has imposed a $1.50 tax on remittances. This fee has been taken from money transfer coming from the diaspora for more than 4 years now. Only Haitians living outside of the country pays the fee on transfer, which sounds unfair. He left the presidency post, but the fee is still applied on money transfer.

The problem is that we, in the diaspora, don't know where the money goes. There's never a report on what the money has been used for. We don't mind the fee; we just want to know in what, where and how they utilize the money.
