Pledge support for Jesse Brook's pursuit of justice

The Issue

An innocent man has already spent six years behind bars and may in fact spend the rest of his life there if those of us who condemn legal injustice do not rise up, mobilize and carry the fight on his behalf.   37 year-old Jesse Brooks was convicted of conspiracy to commit murder based largely upon the words of two killers who provided false testimony in exchange for reduced sentences. Since then, Jesse has been stuck in an Arizona prison, cut off from his family and denied medical attention for a serious injury he struggles with every day.   Jesse's story has made headlines throughout New England, where he once called home, and now his friends, family and supporters are asking for your signature in support of justice for Jesse Brooks.

UPDATE:

THE BARBARIC TREATMENT OF JESSE BROOKS

On September 12, 2013 Jesse Brooks’ private investigators along with Lorraine Brooks held a press conference to bring to light the cruel and unusual punishment Jesse Brooks is currently being subjected to.

Jesse Brooks has spent three years in the Arizona prison system without any problems and now that his HEARING FOR A NEW TRIAL is closing in - suddenly he was put into lockdown under the guise that prison officials received a death threat against him and were concerned for his safety.  Jesse declined their offer but was instead placed in a filthy cell with a metal bed with a 1” pad. He was also deprived of his medications, and subjected to bright lights 24/7, under video surveillance 24/7,  glass door, no shower and little food. He was kept in those conditions for a week and then shipped to Yuma, Arizona which is one of Arizona’s deadliest prisons just 7 miles from the Mexican border. Family members were told that prison officials in New Hampshire make all the decisions with regard to Jesse’s incarceration but regardless of who makes the decisions - why would they order such a move to place Jesse at greater risk if they were concerned for his safety?

History has repeated itself. The answer to the question can be found in 2009 when Jesse was incarcerated at Carroll County in Ossipee, New Hampshire. At that time, he fell on ice and fractured his already severely damaged spine. Within weeks prosecutor Janice Rundles ordered him to Rockingham County Jail where he was placed in the hole for (6) weeks without any pain medication and an unstabilized fracture. The only medication they would provide was psychiatric medication which did nothing for his pain but has well-documented side effects including psychosis, mania, depersonalization, hallucinations, heart attack, suicidal ideas, stroke and sudden death. The curious timing for this treatment coincided with Jesse’s preparation for trial.

After his wrongful conviction he was sent to New Hampshire State Prison where he spent a year in solitary confinement without any problems. Just two weeks before he would have been reclassified to a lower custody, (5) NH State Police in riot gear swept him out in the middle of the night and put him in a transport van for a non-stop circuitous trip through ten states to Arizona. His shackled ankles were bleeding from stepping in and out of an unheated van for almost a week. When he arrived filthy and under total sleep deprivation, he learned that NH had shipped him without his property, medical records and commissary funds - and he did not receive them for months. To compound his inhumane treatment further, New Hampshire prison officials placed a proverbial target on his back by falsifying his prison record claiming that he was a gang member and escape risk.

After intake in Phoenix, he was shipped to “The Walls” in Florence, Arizona where he was placed in solitary confinement simply because NH shipped him before he was reclassified out of maximum security and Arizona’s policy requires that they hold maximum security prisoners for 1-4 years in solitary.

Jesse remained in solitary confinement for (3) years until October 11th 2012, which coincidentally was a week after his website JUSTICE FOR JESSE BROOKS was launched to expose his continuous mistreatment. Jesse has suffered endlessly for a crime he had no part of while one of the actual killers - Joseph Vrooman, who openly admitted that Jesse was his ticket to a very light sentence, has spent his prison time working in a law library.

Jesse’s prosecutor has gone to extraordinary lengths to ship him off and keep her misconduct quiet, but the more she tries to hide her own grievous crimes in this case, the more revealing they become. Thankfully for Jesse Brooks’ supporters; his fight for justice will continue until he wins his freedom. We will not give up. We cannot give up.

UPDATE: The day following the press conference, Jesse Brooks was finally given his doctor prescribed medications. This is no mere coincidence. The prison officials respond only to public pressure so we must continue to put the heat on and shine a light upon the inhumane treatment handed down to Jesse, who is 100% innocent of the crime he has been accused of.
