The Issue

The new and official date is Saturday, July 26, beginning at 8:30 p.m! Join the Celebration of Freedom and Body Positivity

While the route remains a surprise, one of the starting points will be Laurelhurst Park in Southeast Portland.

Like many in our community, I was a child when I first witnessed the World Naked Bike Ride, an annual tradition that rolls through our city with joy and energy. The impact of seeing adults embracing body positivity and confidence—free from shame or societal judgment—was deeply inspiring. Today, as a parent, I want my children and others to grow up in a world where self-acceptance, artistic expression, and personal freedom are celebrated rather than stigmatized.

Since this event began, it has stood as a powerful statement against body shaming and for sustainable transportation. Rather than an act of indecency, it is an opportunity for people to challenge outdated notions of shame and prudishness in a non-sexual, liberating environment. Studies from the Mental Health Foundation highlight that body satisfaction and appreciation are linked to better overall well-being and fewer unhealthy dieting behaviors. Promoting body positivity helps foster mental health, self-esteem, and resilience against societal pressures. (read the study here)

This is not about imposing restrictions or fostering fear—it’s about embracing a culture of inclusivity, free expression, and respect for personal autonomy. Portland has long been known for its progressive values, and this ride is a testament to our community’s openness and celebration of diversity.

Let’s support events that promote body positivity, environmental awareness, and personal freedom. Stand with us in protecting this cherished tradition—sign this petition to keep Portland’s Naked Bike Ride rolling for years to come!
