Join the Meta Blackout: Stand Against Censorship and for Justice in Palestine
The Issue
We are calling for urgent collective action against Meta Platforms encompassing Facebook, Instagram, and Messenger. This petition serves as a platform to unite under the #MetaBlackout initiative, beginning October 7th. Our goal is to implement a nationwide partial boycott of Meta products to protest their continued censorship, discriminatory practices, and indirect enablement of ethnic cleansing.
Over the past year, Meta has reprehensibly engaged in systematic censorship that silences advocacy for justice in Palestine. A damning Human Rights Watch report highlights that out of 1,050 reviewed cases of censored content, 1,049 supported Palestine, while only one supported Israel. This includes the suspension of accounts belonging to influential figures such as Shaun King, who was penalized for peacefully expressing solidarity with Palestine.
Starting next week, we urge you to join us every Monday and Wednesday in a complete blackout of all Meta products: no posting, no scrolling, no messaging. This is a strategic effort to impact Meta's advertising revenue and send a clear message to Mark Zuckerberg and other tech leaders that we demand change and are ready to mobilize for justice.
If our initial actions do not lead to any change in policy or approach by Meta, we are prepared to escalate our efforts. This could involve increasing our blackout days to four by new year, thereby potentially cutting their advertising revenue by over half.
Your support is crucial. By signing this petition, you are not just lending your voice to a cause but actively participating in a movement striving for fairness and ethical standards in global communication platforms. Stand with us, make your voice heard, and help us advocate for justice and equality.
